At Original Stix we are always excited to join forces with our fans and help charitable causes! Last weekend, we were involved with great cause in Nova Scotia with the help of our friend Jonny Prall.
Last weekend, the first annual Jordan Boyd Celebrity Hockey Challenge took place in Bedford, Nova Scotia. The Challenge is a charity event with the goal of celebrating the love of hockey that Jordan Boyd demonstrated in his life. Jordan was a young, dedicated and hard-working hockey player who collapsed and sadly passed away on the ice at a QMJHL camp at the young age of 16, due to an undiagnosed heart condition.
The event consisted of 6 teams, all getting the opportunity to play with high level “celebrity” players including Nathan MacKinnon and Brad Marchand. Original Stix was involved in sponsoring the event by donating a case to the event's raffle. "Original Stix" was even displayed on the back of one of the participating players' jerseys!
Overall, the event raised over $105,000, which will be split between the Jordan Boyd Leadership Award (a scholarship awarding a graduating high school student who demonstrates similar values as Jordan) as well as the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
